Polo Space in RS: more info
In late April, we announced the Panorama Space blog a story about the creation in Rio Grande do Sul (RS) of the Technological Pole Space Systems, an initiative supported by the state government and established companies in the region, among which the AEL Sistemas, active in aerospace and defense and controlled by the Israeli Elbit Systems.
We contacted the press office of AEL with some questions to get more details on the initiative of the Technological Pole of Space Systems RS. Below, we reproduce the information received. In brief, we discuss in detail the business interests of the company and the state in the field of space.
1) The small satellite to be developed which would end? There are more details about its features?
Represents the beginning of the activities of the pole. Aims to foster interest and start training with ace state universities. The details of the program will occur in a joint effort of the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Development, universities and AEL Sistemas.
In a second step will be prepared an RFP (request for proposal) that will be sent the major companies developing space technology, that have programs of Research & Development Education for setting international partner in this activity.
2) It was talked of expanding the capabilities of the CEITEC. What are these skills? Any idea Polo address the development of semiconductors for CCDs and inertial systems?
CEITEC - together with international partners (such as the Israeli Ramon Chips), AEL Sistemas, the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DCTA) (FAB) and local universities (stressing the UFRGS, the analysis department of radiation to semiconductor) - can join the proposition semiconductor manufacturing radiation resistant for the space market. It is a market with high added value and has low demand productive. These features may represent an attractive business model to CEITEC.
3) What are the main fields of interest Polo?
Integration of satellite subsystems and manufacturing capacity in definition, design and construction of small satellites.
