Avibras joins Embraer and Elbit in production of UAV´s
With the Avibras arrival, Harpia Sistemas assumes the Air Force project.
Avibras, a Brazilian company for military and civilian engineering, will join Embraer and the subsidiary of Israeli Elbit, AEL Sistemas for UAV´s development in Brazil. Avibras will take 9% in Harpia Sistemas joint venture, which will expand its line of action with the arrival of the projected drone “Falcon” that Avibras develops for Brazilian Air Force.
"Avibras arrival increases Harpias participation in national defense” stated Luiz Carlos Aguiar, CEO of Embraer Defense and Security. The executive added that that the joint venture now is qualified as a strategic defense company under Brazilian law.
Embraer will maintain its participation of 51% in Harpia. Elbit Systems (AEL) will reduce its part from 49% to 40%.
Harpia is one of several Embraer´s defense projects focusing on taking advance of the growing Brazilian military budget, and compensate volatile sales cycle in commercial aviation. The defense contract must contribute 21% of Embraer s revenue this year, the company said, more than doubling its participation in five years.
Commercial Jets
Embraer said it does not expect further cuts in production of commercial jets in the coming years, after announcing plans to cut production of its E-Jets by 15% in 2013. A drought in orders for most of last year forced the company to lower the assembly lines of commercial planes. However, the chief executive of Embraer, Frederico Curado, dismissed the idea of cutting production soon again.
