FAB use unmanned airplane to map the frontier between Brazil and Colombia
The Brazilian air force started to use, for the first time, the air unmanned vehicle (VANT) during the �gata 1 operation, started in Friday (5) and don�t have date to be conclude. The objective of the action is map the frontier between Brazil and Colombia to get strategic data�s that allowed help the combat of drugs traffic, contraband, embezzlement of weapons and munitions, extraction of minerals and wood in illegal form, animal traffic and biopiracy.
The airplane was use, in the test phase, in May of the last year, to keep guard over the frontier between Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. The federal police of Paran� use the same type of airplanes to combat the frontier crimes since July 2009.
According to FAB, the airplane used is the Hermes 450, of Israeli manufacturing, have 6 meters of weight and 10 meters of a wing to the other. In autonomy terms of flight, the equipment can get to a velocity of 110km/h in altitude of five thousand meters and be in the air for 15 hours.
The technology of VANT allowed that FAB comply recognized air missions, without the pilots been exposed to adversities, and with the possibility of transmission of image in real time to any place in Brazil.
The equipment, according to FAB is part of the others equipments already operated by the corporation, like the R-99, R-35 and RA-1, enlarging the capacity the air recognized.
