AGATA 7 - UAVs FAB and PF in action on the southern border
The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and the Federal Police (PF) used for the first time in joint action remotely controlled aircraft, known as UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) during the seventh edition of Operation Agatha.
The FAB operates two aircraft PF and two more from São Miguel do Iguaçu, in the far west of Paraná.
Hermes 450: the watcher Brazilian borders
Brazilian Air Force (FAB) acquired two Hermes 450 by the Brazilian company AEL Sistemas, national representative of the Israeli Elbit Systems. The total purchase price was over U.S. $ 48.17 million, including, in addition to aircraft, ground station, sensors and logistical support.
Both systems integrate UAV Squadron Horus, based in Santa Maria (RS), and have been in operation since April 26, 2011. FAB plans to purchase new units in the coming years in bases in the North and Midwest of Brazil.
Hermes 450 is equipped with optical systems able to locate and track targets in real time both day and night and can fly for up to 16 hours. The UAV is fully automated, but the aviator manages all stages of the mission, which can determine a route of flight and fly the aircraft manually. Among the equipments there is one color camera with zoom and a system that captures heat, enabling the tracking of people under trees. Depending on the distance of the target, according to the FAB, you can even find out if people are armed.
Aerial Vehicles System Department of Federal Police (DPF-SISVANT)
Heron UAV System is composed of the UAV, ground control station, sensors on board an aircraft, satellite and satellite antenna (SatCom Link), which enables full control of the UAV in flight and reception of images generated by the unmanned vehicle.
Heron UAV System allows, among other capabilities, images of places or areas in real time, aiding the planning and execution of specific operations triggered by the Appellate Public Safety working in the region.
Aerial Vehicles System Department of Federal Police (DPF-SISVANT) is inserted into a much larger project, which is not limited only to the use of UAVs to monitor the border areas.
SISVANT and DPF- one (01) of the eight (08) subprojects that integrate Centre for Strategic Analysis and Intelligence Officer (CINTEPOL), initiated in 2007, which, among others, have the ability to monitor the border areas through various intelligence tools (including UAVs) with the intersection of all integrated databases, production information and data efficient in combating crime in general, but especially organized crime.
The use of UAVs varies due to factors ranging from the need, given the vast extent of our borders, the lack of national satellites, the cost to obtain images, transmitting images in real time, the extension of continental our country.
